Born and raised in Ireland, Mary graduated with a B.A. in English, French and Music from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. On completion of her teaching credential, Mary joined the staff of a progressive public high school in the south of Ireland where she taught French and music for ten years. Following her tenure at Tarbert Comprehensive public school, Mary went to France where she taught ESL to primary and middle school children. From there she went to California to join her husband, Philip, a faculty member in the UC Davis Department of Chemistry. In 2009, Mary graduated with her Master’s in Linguistics with a TESOL emphasis from UC Davis and since then has worked part-time teaching writing to both international undergraduate and graduate students in the University Writing Program at UC Davis. Mary has also worked in the UC Davis Extension IEPP and Communication and Culture Programs and is very much looking forward to using her writing expertise to help our Humphrey fellows as they prepare their personal biographies and resumes.
